“And Just Like That… The Tassels Have Turned.”

A Final Reflection from Principal Yeager

Tonight, as I stood before the Class of 2025—beneath the lights of the gym, surrounded by caps, gowns, and proud families—I felt the weight of a thousand memories pressing on my heart. Graduation is always emotional. But this one? It was something different. It was the culmination of a journey that has stretched me, refined me, and filled me with more pride than words can hold.

I gave my final graduation speech as Principal of Perry Central High School. And even now, as I write these words, I feel emotionally drained, physically tired, yet spiritually full. These scholars—raised among the pine trees and dirt roads of Perry County—have overcome so much. And last night, they stood tall. They proved that from humble beginnings can rise unshakable greatness.

To our graduates: you made us proud. You walked that stage not just with a diploma in hand, but with the weight of legacy on your shoulders. You earned every step, every clap, every tear. Your story matters, and the world needs your grit, your grace, and your fire. Go and be great—but never forget where you came from.

To my district leadership team and our Superintendent: thank you. Your vision and trust made space for growth. You allowed me to lead boldly. To the faculty and staff—those on the frontlines every single day—you are the heart of this place. We believed in each other. We fought for kids. And together, we rewrote the narrative.

To the community: thank you for believing in your school again. Thank you for showing up—for cheering loud in the bleachers, for packing out auditoriums, and for holding us accountable when it mattered most. We’ve come a long way.

This moment, while celebratory, also marks a transition. I want to encourage you—every parent, teacher, student, and community member—to stand behind your next leader. Embrace them. Support them. The work is not finished, and Perry Central deserves your full backing. Leadership may change, but the mission remains: to raise up generations of learners and leaders right here in these woods.

To my graduates—remember, your story didn’t end on that stage. That was just the prologue. Carry yourself with poise. Reflect often. Give back. And love big. From these pine trees, you’ve already reached heights most said you wouldn’t. Now go show them just how far a Perry County kid can soar.

With deep love, unshakable pride, and a forever Bulldog heart,

– Joshua L. Yeager
